I thought I would write a little article on one of an inspirational character that is Steve Jobs, not only because of the aesthetically perfect brand he created but for what he stood for and how his vision changed technology.
I recently watched the film ‘Jobs’ In which I would recommend to anyone, Steve was a college dropout and some may say that if it wasn’t for his childhood friend Steve Wozniak he wouldn’t he wouldn’t have been the historical character he is today. Wozniak was the technical brains behind ‘Apple 1′ the personal computer. They began making these computers in Steve’s parents garage, and not a foot to stand on when it come to gaining Capital Venture. But then came the day where he was lucky enough to obtain finance… and from here the ‘Apple’ brand grew from a pip!
See Steve was seen as a visionary, he didn’t want to follow what Microsoft were doing at the time, he wanted to pay attention to the small details, font, aesthetics, he wanted to create a product that people didn’t realize they needed. It was this passion and differentation that got Steve fired from the board forced out of Apple in 1985, his touch for perfection was seen as too risky by shareholders.. and with this apple sold less of newer models and stocks fell.
Now imagine that the brand that you have created and nurtured has been taken from your hands and is on the route to self destruction, almost as if Steve bit the poison apple. But his passion and drive for changing the world allowed him to continue in his carreer with the company NeXT. NeXT was bought by apple in 1996 for the processing system and Steve is back on the apple team and then regains his status as CEO.
Where from here… iMAC, Ipod, Iphone, Ipad… Steve put apple back on top because he is the only person who knew where he wanted the company to go. He didn’t want to sit down and follow the competition he wanted to be better… and create products that cannot be competed with and a fashionable brand where no matter what the price, people will buy!
There is a great quote by Steve that I think any entrepreneur can relate to…
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
It is not about what others are doing well its about what you can do better. RIP Steve apple will not be the same without you. (1955-2011)
