The importance of branding often comes as an unspoken question for businesses. Everyone knows its importance, however ask its meaning to 100 entrepreneurs and you are likely to get 100 different answers. Branding is my business reputation, branding is how I keep my customers interested, branding is my point of differentiation from others. Yes all of the above are true, but more importantly branding is You.
‘If you take care of your character, your reputation will take care of itself’(Alan Sugar, Amstrad)
This quote gets to the heart of Branding. If you want your brand/business to be in the public eye, this comes with putting yourself in the public eye. You are selling yourself as much as your business. Your business is the paper and you are the pen.
By branding a business through yourself you appeal to the consumers emotional side. People don’t buy from businesses, they certainly don’t buy from robots… they buy from people. Therefore Branding is not only yourself, but the people you put in front of your business. Their personalities need to match your passion and love for what you are doing. Unfortunately this is something we do not see enough, especially through the likes of retail.
Branding is a subject I feel more confident to speak about during my more recent work experiences. If you are in a position where you feel that you are in the public eye, then to better the business, you need to better your self-branding. This new website is a chance for me to express my opinions, share my experiences, but also brand myself as a person. It is a way of differentiating yourself from others.
